In the period running up to the General Election on June 8th 2017, community pharmacy must continue to try to build upon the success of last year’s Support Your Local Pharmacy campaign, engaging with candidates standing to become elected as Members of Parliament.
We would like as many candidates as possible to understand the value that community pharmacy delivers to both the NHS and local communities, as well as the crucial impact that we can and do have on supporting people with long term conditions, providing convenient access to advice and information, and protecting public health. We are calling for all candidates to give community pharmacy their active support and to champion the sector as a positive and fundamental part of future NHS policy.
People working in community pharmacy can help by writing to their local Parliamentary Candidates, setting up pharmacy visits for Parliamentary Candidates in collaboration with the local LPC, seeking publicity for those visits, and continuing to tweet about community pharmacy using the hashtag #pharmacy17.
Below you will find a range of resources and information to help with this, produced by the various national pharmacy organisations.
PSNC has produced a guide to arranging and hosting a pharmacy visit from a Parliamentary Candidate, including a template invitation and press release. PSNC has also compiled template tweets for use throughout the election period, and has a range of infographics and background materials available on its website.
Pledge poster (new)
A poster for Parliamentary Candidates to have a photo with when visiting a pharmacy. Tweet the photo from your pharmacy account using the hashtag #pharmacy17 and linking to the candidate’s account (use the ‘@’ function), or you could ask them to tweet it directly.
Election 2017 visit guide
This guidance explains how to invite a Parliamentary Candidate to visit a community pharmacy and then how to host and make the most of that visit. If you wish to host a pharmacy visit, please contact your LPC to help coordinate this.
