Can Viagra Affect The Heart?

After lengthy experiments, researchers came to the conclusion that Viagra (Sildenafil), which is used to treat erectile dysfunction, has a positive effect on the heart.

Viagra has a beneficial effect on the heart!

Scientists from Johns Hopkins University found that Viagra, used by many men to improve erection, can have a positive effect on the heart, reports BBC News. During stress, Viagra reduces the load on the heart, which is a kind of respite for it.

The study involved 35 healthy men and women aged about 30 years. Each of them was given an injection of dobutamine, which leads to an increase in heartbeat, as it happens during any kind of exercise. Then one of the participants in the experiment was given 100 mg of Viagra, and the other was given a placebo. After that, everyone was given a second injection of dobutamine.

It turned out that men who took Viagra experienced heartbeat slowed down by 50 percent after the second injection. Their blood pressure also decreased. Side effects on the heart were not noted. The researchers also note that sildenafil controls the load on the heart and protects it from depletion of a special substance molecule, which includes an enzyme protein that promotes good erection when using Viagra for its intended purpose.

Viagra reduces the risk of death after a heart attack by 40%

According to Professor Trafford, earlier it was assumed that phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors (PDE-5), which include Viagra (sildenafil), can positively affect the heart condition in diabetes.

Professor Trafford and his colleagues focused on studying the risks of heart attack and related death in patients suffering from both erectile dysfunction and type 2 diabetes.

Researchers analyzed case histories dated 2007–2015. The data included 5956 men aged 40 to 89 years with diagnosed type 2 diabetes. 1359 participants took PDE-5 inhibitors for the treatment of erectile dysfunction.

After 6.9 years, the risk of death from various causes was 31% lower among patients who took PDE-5 inhibitors.

Men who had a myocardial infarction had a lower risk of death by 40% compared to those who did not take such drugs.

The risk of death in patients with congestive heart failure, transient ischemic attack, and peripheral vascular disease decreased by 36, 40 and 34%, respectively.

In addition, the researchers found that men who took Viagra had a lower risk of a heart attack.

During follow-up, 432 men died as a result of a heart attack. However, the mortality rate among those who took PDE-5 inhibitors was 25%, while this indicator was 42.7% in the second group.

Heart diseases will be treated with Viagra

Scientists from the University of Sapienza in Rome encourage physicians to include the world-famous drug to increase potency in the program for treating heart diseases since Viagra helps to significantly reduce the risk of heart attacks.

The object of their research was one the enzyme phosphodiesterase of the fifth type – sildenafil, which is responsible for changing the blood flow and impedes the relaxation of muscle tissue. The experiments involved more than 1600 patients suffering from diseases of the cardiovascular system.

As indicated in a report published in the journal BMC Medicine, sildenafil is able to relax blood vessels, prevent damage to heart cells, improve heart tissue.

The author of the study, Andres Isidori, writes: “We found that sildenafil can be used as an effective and safe medicine for patients suffering from heart disease. Now, to confirm our discovery, large-scale clinical trials are urgently needed.” It turned out that men who independently took Viagra to improve potency, have a more healthy heart. In addition, in patients with so-called left ventricular hypertrophy, which leads to an enlarged heart, the drug stops the growth of the diseased organ and, accordingly, reduces the risk of heart attack and stroke.
